Bonnie B's New Boat
Bonnie is sailing this 08 season in his fourth build.
His new boat is sleek, comfy, handles well and can
be seen from miles away. He also just completed a
custom enclosed trailer to give his boat a good
home when not on the ice. Bonnie is
running a 10' rear beam and a cut down Hobie 16
Mast. His hull is plywood construction. Bonnie being
a welder has one of the best working brakes on
any boat that I have seen. His braking system will
either rip a hole in the ice, lift the boat off the ice
or in most cases stop the boat in its tracks.
Mike, Bonnie and I are running the same basic
footprints on our boats even though they look
nothing alike. One of the biggest drawbacks to
building your own boat is getting the
icetime to tune and adjust the boat. With us all
using the same footprint we can build in the
ballpark and and when on
the ice we can easily swap parts and pieces tohelp
each other out when in a pinch. We also can drive
each others boats and point out something that
doesn't look or feel right. I think over all our fleet
has become faster by doing this. Bonnie has tried
his boat with three different sets of runners
and four different sails in the last two sailing days
we have had. It is a great way to find out what
works and what doesn't before building and or
buying sails and runners. I think todays(Jan 13)
combination was working very well for him.
